In
the Hebrew Bible, originally the the books of
first and second Samuel were one book known as
the Book of Samuel. When the Septuagint came,
Samuel got divided into two books even though it
is one continuous account this one being
considered the First Book of Samuel also known
as the "First Kingdoms". It separates
the history of David. Samuel is the book that
transitions Israel from the theocracy of ruling
by judges to the monarchy of ruling by Kings. In
the 94 years covered (1105-1011 B.C.) Eli
(Chapters 1-4), Samuel (Chapters 1-7), Saul
(Chapters 8-31) and David (16-31) are the main
characters in this book. Samuel was not only a
prophet but he was also a priest and a judge.
One of the most noteworthy chapters is Chapter
15, where the tragic Kingship transition of Saul
to David is recorded. When sin abounds, God
removes His blessing from the sinner.
"Because you have rejected the Word of the
Lord, He also has rejected you from being
king." 1 Samuel 15:23 Read this Book and
find out what happens to Saul.
